What’s your logo?

What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when you see the following images?

Apple logo

Nike logo

Google logo

The first one reminds me of the first gadget in my wishlist: a hot Macbook.

The second one makes me feel empowered with the “Just do it!” tag line ringing in my head.

And the third one, for me, is one of the best things ever about the internet.

Apple, Nike and Google certainly knew the importance of a classy, kickass and unique logo to suit their brand.

Having a logo adds “oomph!” to your identity and public presence especially if you’ve established your brand well and you’ve made strong associations to it.

Have you ever thought of creating your own logo?

Most bloggers are content with a title to establish their web presence. But once they get serious about blogging and making themselves known in the world wide web, the identify themselves with a unique logo like Darren Rowse and Yaro Starak.

Lifehack also mentions creating a logo as one of the ten ways to pimp your blog:

This can be as simple as the title or its initials in a cool font that expresses the tone of your site, or an actual graphic (think: Nike’s “Swoosh”) that sums up the way you want your readers to feel.

If you’re into DIY projects or love to tinker with graphic programs like Photoshop, creating a logo can be a fun experience as you decide to compress your image and message into a 160 x 160 (or smaller) logo.

But if you’re not graphic savvy, you can always opt for logo making sites that can give you a unique logo in just a few minutes.

I tried make a logo for this blog using the logo design site Logoyes. There’s a fee to download the source files but they offer a free trial which is a good way to get ideas and experiment on the looks of your potential logo. I was able to make mine in 6 easy steps.

The free trial allows you to choose the type of image you want to use for your logo.

You can then choose a category to make searching for a logo a lot easier.

There’s a wide array of images to choose from.

As well as varieties for each image.

You can then type your own logo title and customize the font.

You can change the logo and title’s color and layout too.

This is the logo I came up with.

The site also offers an option to see how your logo looks like in a matching business card.

This would be a cool thing to give out during blog conferences or meet ups. :)

For me, this logo means “My heart reaching out to yours”

If you were to make your own logo, what image would you choose and what message would it hold?
