UTI, some “house cleaning,” thin routine

May 26, 2009 in Miscellany

justwritingMy mind is going around with lots of ideas now and I am nearing mental block.

But instead of delaying until I can write a “perfect” blog post, I might as well just write as the words come.

So here’s what has happened for the past week.

The UTI struck again.

And this time, it hit my youngest daughter Kalia.

We stayed in the hospital for five days because Kalia kept throwing up her antibiotics so there was no other choice but to give the meds through her IV.

Except for her constant attempts to remove her IV, Kalia remained energetic throughout our stay in the hospital. You wouldn’t even think she was sick at all.

It was also good that Jamaine, who was confined in the same hospital two years ago also for UTI, had a lot of fun staying with us there. She loved going to the nursery area and peeking at all the babies.

On our fourth night, results showed that Kalia had improved greatly and she was feeding more much to our relief. The IV was also removed much to Kalia’s relief such that she started walking and crawling all over the room like there was no tomorrow.

I know Urinary Tract Infection is not hereditary but I am inclined to think I might have passed it on to my daughters in some way.

Or maybe I really should just stir clear of disposable diapers.

The pedia said, diapers are almost always one of the culprits.

But if we choose to stick with diapers, we just have to change it much more frequently. It’s gonna be more costly but it’s better than going through that all over again.

I guess any mother would agree with me that a child getting sick could really seem like an ordeal. It makes you wish you could just take on their ailment all to yourself.

I am just glad all is well now.

On the blog front, I am growing restless again about the way things look around here.

Since I am reviving this blog, I want this online home to look fresh and new again.

I am thinking of changing the paint, re-arranging some furniture, throwing in some fresh rugs and cleaning out all the clutter.

Hopefully, I can get around to that soon.

I can get pretty obsessive about my blog’s theme and when I start tinkering, I won’t stop until it’s done so I might have to reserve a day for that.

Some have been commenting how thin I am now and wondering if I have been on diet pills since I took them before.

But this time, this thin is all natural — achieved via controlled eating and physical activity.

True there are some diet pills that work. And taking them is easier than controlling eating habits and working out. I did shrink considerably before when I took them but the downside was I gained it all back.

Weight loss achieved through natural means is definitely more lasting.

I’ve stopped going boxing months ago but I am now trying a workout routine at home that takes 15 to 30 minutes that works just as well as my two hour workouts.

But that would have to be for another post.

One thing that works for sure: walking.

I walk a lot everyday. I even take the stairs when I go up or go down from my office at the sixth floor.

When I want to have lunch out, I walk to the restaurant strip a couple of blocks away from the office instead of taking a cab.

It seems too simple but the daily walking efforts do add up.

This might sound like a commercial but I’ll say it anyway: just try it and see the difference.
