
The yellow butterfly flew around the white tent one time before finally disappearing into the sky. I knew it was Mommy assuring us she was happy in heaven before finally saying goodbye.

We buried Mommy this morning right next to Lolo Iren. I was happy to see that a lot of people came to pay their last respects. I’m happy they remembered her.
Despite a few tears, it was comforting that Mommy has been laid in her final resting place. I kissed one white rose before throwing it in her grave. I thanked her for being part of our lives. I thanked her for reminding us that life is fleeting and we must live every moment with love, passion and purpose.
While mama and my aunts said their prayers, I closed my eyes and saw Mommy wearing a sparkling white Filipiniana gown and Lolo in an intricately embroidered barong. They were smiling and holding hands as they entered the gates of heaven.

I wondered out loud why God sent a yellow butterfly and my aunt reminded me, “Mommy was wearing a yellow gown.”
I’m pretty sure after I die, God will send a pink butterfly.
