The four-day birthday celebration
I’ve been celebrating my birthday since the week started and I’ll probably be celebrating until the week’s end so just keep the surprises coming!
Monday
Kernan read my birthday wishlist two days after I posted it, chose number 2 and told me to place an order right away.
I was expecting he’d choose that because I knew number one would be totally impractical at this time. Besides, I’m starting to get addicted to mineral makeup and I’ve been thinking of saving up to buy full pots anytime soon.
Giddy with excitement, I placed an order at the Beauty and Minerals site for a starter set of full pot MMUs and a flat top brush. I even told the seller Sophie that I’m willing to pay for rush delivery because I wanted to receive the package by Wednesday.
Sophie was kind enough to accommodate my request and even waived the shipping fee. Now that’s what I call a great seller.
Tuesday
Kernan took me out on an advance date to watch 27 Dresses. Actually, he really wanted to watch Alien versus Predator. But since it was my birthday week and he knew I wanted a chick flick, he agreed to watch 27 with me.
The movie was so funny, sweet and light that even hubby found himself enjoying it. I liked Katherine Heigl’s character because I saw myself in her eons ago: the naive, self-sacrificing, and blindly loving me.
But soon enough, she learns her unrequited love is not really how she had imagined he would be and she finds that her true love is the last person she expected it to be. Yup, sound really familiar.
Literally, the 27 dresses she wore in the movie were ridiculously frumpy and it’s cool how she still managed to pull them off in style.
Anyway, we capped the night with some fastfood spaghetti and my current food craving: hot choco fudge sundae. Sweet blissful night.
Wednesday
My MMU gift arrived first thing in the morning and it really made my day. I was pleasantly surprised to find that Sophie threw in three Illuminizer samples in mini pots and a small birthday note.
Now, I’m thinking of adding more to my MMU stash but I’m really restraining myself. MMU fans say a full pot can last for almost a year! The best thing is MMU does not expire because it’s all natural. So even if your pot lasts for more than 12 months, you won’t have to worry about foul smells or itch-causing bacteria.
I know I’m already sounding like an infomercial but really, I think MMU is worth any kikay girl’s time and money.
Kernan and I had another dinner date in the evening. He wanted to go to Metrowalk but since I was feeling a bit tired, we just cruised the Morato stretch instead.
We wanted to try a new restaurant and picked the Chinese resto Big Bowl. The servings were huge but the ambiance left much to be desired mainly because the interiors had a certain smell.
The price was reasonable considering the serving size but I personally thought Chowking’s fastfood fare tasted better.
After dinner, we drove through McDo and I indulged on a hot choco fudge sundae. I was in sweet heaven so my disappointment over dinner was also driven away.
At 11:52 pm, I got this message from Love: “Pek, haberdey
wavyu” Love is truly sweetness in human form.
Thursday
My phone beeped again shortly after 12 midnight. My Kernie, who was still in a “business party,” greeted me with a kiss. More birthday messages poured in throughout the day, some from friends whom I haven’t heard from in months.
Mama also came over and cooked my birthday spaghetti. I had so much spaghetti, I probably won’t be eating any form of pasta in the next three weeks.
I spent a great deal of the afternoon doing research for work so I could indulge in a salon visit after.
I headed over to the Boots Salon in Sgt. Esguerra for my long-awaited self-pampering treat.
I had read good reviews about Boots in magazines and watched a feature about it so I thought I’d give it a try.
It was my first time to go there so I was surprised to find that their place was really small. There were three girls who were having their hair and makeup done for a prom so the place was a bit cramped.
But the staff was very accommodating which more than made up for the lack in space. I got a haircut, a scalp treatment and a pedicure.
I liked how the stylist really paid close attention to layering my hair. I think he did a great job with my cut and I was pretty satisfied with the result.
I felt really good which made me realize that I should really spend more time pampering myself.
To top it off, the nice receptionist gave me discounts on all three services and I paid less than what I expected. My Boots experience was a great birthday treat, I’m definitely going back in two weeks.
When Kernan picked me up at the salon, he said I looked so beautiful. I felt so too.
Before heading to my editing work in the evening, Kernan and I stopped by at home to have a quick pizza and pasta dinner with my family. My dad and two brothers came over which is good because we rarely got together ever since I got married.
After they left, I went to the office to help out in editing our Saturday episode. We’re still having some “birthing pains” with the new format of the show so it took us longer to edit everything.
My birthday ended with me at work but I’m happy nonetheless.
Kernan said he’s taking me on a “trip to Tagaytay” this weekend so it looks like the celebration is not yet over.
I wonder what’s next… ![]()

Thanks Rach!

Actually yung MMU ko sa US nakukuha but there is a local reseller here in the Phil. You can check their websites and order online. Ang sarap niya gamitin, promise! Maadik ka rin.
