My baby is almost a little lady

Watching Jamaine grow up just makes me so happy.

I remember during one of those nights less than two years ago when she was just a little baby in my arms, I imagined the day that she would be old enough to talk with me and tell me stories.
And now that’s what we always do. We [...]

Mommy, messy hair is cool

Jamaine has fine straight hair and she likes it down a lot. When she was a baby, we’d have no trouble putting rubber bands, clips and clamps to fix her hair because she really has no choice she’s such a well-behaved baby.

But now that she’s older and can pretty much assert herself, she prefers to [...]

My new moleskine

1. My new moleskine
I finally caved in. But this time, of course, I’ve already used up my two old idea notebooks which gives me “reason” to get this new one. I just decided to have one idea notebook this time since my achy back requires that I bring a lighter bag every day. Does it [...]

Dear Jamaine,

One year ago, you saw the light of the world for the first time.
After carrying you and nourishing you for nine months, I could hardly believe that you were finally right before my eyes.
As I cradled you in my arms, I knew it was one of the happiest days of my life.
I remember how tiny [...]

Sometimes I pinch her

Out of gigil that is.
Is it so weird to be gushing over the cuteness of your own baby?
Well, she doesn’t look like me so no one can say I’m admiring my own looks.
Actually, more than her cute chubby face, Jamaine’s constant babbling has been a great source of amusement for us lately.
When other people hear [...]

Lessons from playtime

We’ve been doing this for the nth time.
I let Jamaine sit on the rubber puzzle mat on the floor. She pulls out Mr. Froggy from his slot and starts to munch on his blue head.
I pull poor rubber froggy away from her mouth, “This is just for playing, not for eating.”
She looks at me then [...]

Oh my back! Oh my baby!

At 9 months, Jamaine is weighing 8.6 pounds.
But, in our last check-up, the pedia said Jamaine didn’t gain much weight.
She advised me to give her “real food” and feed it to her twice a day to help with the weight gain.
I don’t know about that weighing scale in the clinic, but my back certainly feels [...]

After the storm

The storm has finally passed.
Jamaine is getting better everyday, her coughs have been reduced to the barest minimum and her colds have gone completely.
It still pains me when I think about how she looked at the height of her cough and cold attack: her eyes red and swollen from crying, her nose red from the [...]

My new sleeping partner

Kernan and I have been sleeping on separate beds for close to two months now. We both agreed that this is the best option for both of us considering the risks involved.
It takes some getting used to and we still find it difficult sometimes. But we both know it’s something we have to do.
You see, [...]

Attack of the Night Monster

The room is silent except for the rythmic whirring of the electric fan and the occasional sound of a speeding jeep passing by.
Suddenly, a shrill cry pierces the silence and jolts me from my half-sleep. I look at Jamaine beside me tossing to and fro, crying as if she were in pain.
I turn on the [...]
