Polaroid cameras anyone?

July 17, 2011 in Miscellany

I’ve been fascinated with photography lately, thanks to my android’s camera apps. I’ve been using Camera360, Molome, Lightbox and Vignette alternately, depending on my mood. I’ve actually added another one just an hour ago, Snapbucket.

Playtime!

I’ve only had two cameras in my lifetime, both of which were point and shoot. I wasn’t really into DLSRs since I thought they were too heavy and complicated. I like using stuff that are simple but do the job well.

Recently though, I’ve stumbled upon blogs that still use Polaroid cameras for their photography. There’s something magical and charming about vintage – looking photographs, like they have so many stories waiting to tell.

I know you can achieve that effect with Photoshop actions or even through camera app filters, but I feel there’s nothing like the real thing. So yeah, I’ve got another item on my wishlist: a Polaroid camera.

The only thing that’s hindering me from going all out with it is the expensive film which is not always locally available. Not to mention, you’ve got to have great shots in one take since you can’t really preview before you print.

I found a local Multiply shop selling a Polaroid camera for 12,500 with two packs of film. Tempting but still on the fence. Anyone had any experience using Polaroid cameras?

In the meantime, I’ll satisfy my camera craving with my droid apps. I’ll probably find another one to add soon. ;)
