Kalia played with my Clearasil tube and lost it. Now I’m temporarily defenseless from those little pimples that have been popping up every now and then. Thankfully I’ve still got my secret weapon against these pesky spots.
I’m not sure exactly what it’s called but I’ve been using it since I was in high school when my hormones started raging mad. I call it my pimple and blackhead extractor.
Warning: The description might get a bit gross.
It’s got a pointed tip which I use to puncture the zit or blackhead surface.
And a round tip which I use to extract the icky stuff.
My mom used to tell me that I should leave my face alone and my pimples should heal by themselves. But when she and an aunt worked together briefly in a salon and facial clinic business, she discovered how to use this and taught me how to use it too.
I only use it on pimples, white heads or black heads that are already protruding on my skin. But when it’s just a red bump starting to appear, I spot treat it with an acne gel.
It can get quite painful of course, but after the icky stuff comes out, it’s all worth it. Since the puncture is pretty small, it doesn’t leave a scar. Just a little red spot that fades away eventually.
I carry this extractor in my kikay bag all the time. Since I ride the jeep every day going to work, the smoke and fumes tend to cause little pimples to pop out on my forehead or nose. So the moment I spot them, they get extracted right away.
I can’t say that this is the best way to treat a zit because, in some cases, popping them might do more harm than good. Especially if you overdo it or you further infect the zit.
It works for me because I take precautions when using it. I make sure my hands are clean and the extractor is soaked in alcohol. I make really tiny punctures and I extract gently. (A few times before I pressed too hard, the spot got infected and it left a dark spot on my skin. Good thing it faded away.) After extracting, I wipe the spot with a clean cotton ball then I put acne gel on it.
This is a photo I took of myself a few hours back. See that little red spot between my brows? A zit was peeking out of that spot when I woke up this morning. (I forgot to wash my face before sleeping, that’s why.) I extracted it and left that little red spot.
So I guess if you’ve got minor zits that need a quick fix, I think using this could work just as long as you’re careful with it. But if your acne situation is quite severe, it’s always best to consult a dermatologist.
