I love mochi

mochiballs

I loved mochi balls at first taste during a lunch out with an office friend at Kozui. I was craving for something sweet or anything chocolate when I spotted these little balls at the display counter calling out to me.

I just had a healthy salad, I am entitled to a not so healthy treat. That’s me trying to justify dessert.

I ordered four pieces at P15 each.

Mochi is a traditional food for the Japanese New Year. It is made into different desserts like mochi ice cream. These balls are made of pounded sweet rice and usually have a sweet filling. For Pinoys, a familiar comparison would be the buchi, just without the sesame seed coating.

I let one mochi ball roll inside my mouth until its stripped off all it’s chocolate powder coating. Then I sank my teeth into the glutinous ball taking my tongue into the semi-sweet chunk of chocolate inside.

It was heavenly.

What’s good about it is each mochi ball is formed in a way that balances the sweetness. The taste of the chocolate powder coating is somehow neutralized by the rice ball preparing your taste buds for the final explosion of sweet chocolatey goodness.

I ate the remaining three mochi balls ever so slowly, relishing every bit and flavor.

I heard there’s a whole store of mochi balls in the QC area that has different flavors and specialties. Will definitely check that out soon.

Mochi balls are now on my happy food list.

What’s your happy food?

If you love chocolate, the mochi balls at Kozui are so awesome. :)

I keep seeing Red Mango at SM Megamall but never really took the time to come in. Will have to try out their mochi balls. Hope there’s chocolate.

Red Mango sells frozen yoghurt. if you like that, you’re gonna like them. and i don’t think they have chocolate though, just plain ones.
