Healthy Sexy Mommy Challenge (Part 3): Celebrate small victories
One morning, I was looking at my closet tired of seeing the same old preggy clothes hanging inside.
“I have nothing to wear,” I sighed.
Suddenly, the blue jeans hanging at the farthest corner of the closet caught my eye.
A thought flashed across my mind, “What if….”
“Don’t even dare,” a voice inside me said. “You’ll only get disappointed.”
But my inner cheerleader shouted in my head, “Just go ahead and try it.”
I reached for the blue jeans and held it up in front of me. “I want it to fit.”
I opened the fly, slipped my right leg and then my left leg.
So far, so good.
I pulled the jeans up and closed my eyes as it went past my hips and reached my waist.
“Can I close the fly?”
I held my stomach a little tighter, I pulled up the zipper and I pulled the button a little closer.
Suddenly, I felt a wave of victory wash over me.
I could wear my blue jeans again.
It. Felt. So. Good.

Working out does pay off
And i keep reminding myself that everyday.
But before you think I’m this amazing, super disciplined woman who exercises and follows a diet every single day, I’ll set the record straight.
I am far from it.
I started this personal challenge more than 2 weeks ago and launched it just last week. So far, I have only spent 8 out 18 days of exercise: 4 days in the first week, 3 days in the second week and 1 day as of today for this week.
Sure, I felt like I failed when I wasn’t able to keep up with my plan to exercise everyday. And yes, I’m still big in the middle.
But I stopped dwelling on that a week ago.
The important thing is I keep trying.
I keep doing it the best way that I can because every effort counts.
All the days I spent working out built one on top of the other to get the results I have now. And I know I’m getting fitter and sexier a little bit everyday.
Celebrating the seemingly small victory of being able to wear jeans again motivates me to be smarter about budgeting my time and to be more diligent about setting aside some of it for exercise.
Celebrate your small victories
Whether it’s being able to work out once a week or losing a few centimeters from your waistline or simply being able to refuse that extra slice of chocolate cake.
Consider yourself victorious.
Stop thinking about all the workouts you’ve missed or all the extra calories you ate the other day.
Focus on your accomplishments then build on them.
Strive to go an extra mile to reach your goal.
Increase your workout to twice a week.
During the weekend, turn off the TV and take a walk for an hour or hit the badminton court or engage in (insert your favorite sport here).
Switch your favorite chips for an apple or (insert your favorite fruit here).
Just keep exerting a little extra effort and I’m sure you’ll soon be amazed at the results you’ll be getting.
And I think this will work in other areas of life too.
My progress
My weight is still at 125.
My waist is down to 30. When I wake up in the morning, it’s 29.
I’m improving my flexibility and my posture.
But more than all of these, I feel so much more confident to face the world and healthier than I used to be.
And yeah, a bit sexier too.
What victory are you celebrating this week?
