125 and 32.
These two numbers may seem random to you.
But to me, they represent two important things: my health and my self-esteem.
125 pounds and 32 inches — that is my weight and my waistline and I’m not happy about it.
Before pregnancy, I was 110 pounds and 25 inches.
The difference: 15 pounds and 7 inches.
That sounds enormous for someone who ate anything and still stayed slim for 25 years of her life.
But I’ve learned that complaining about being heavy and not being able to wear the clothes I wanted would not change a thing.
To be the healthy and sexy mommy I wanted to be, I needed to take action.
The first step to achieve that goal is to face the facts: the 2 Ws and I H.
Where am I now?
I have to admit, I was scared of stepping on that weighing scale and seeing how heavy I’ve become.
I was even more afraid of putting that measuring tape around my waist and seeing how big I’ve become.
Heavy and big were adjectives that never applied to me before but now I have to accept them.
I have to accept the facts that:
- My arms are jiggly
- My legs are wiggly
- My belly is flabby
It’s not an easy thing to do but once that’s over I can move on to next important thing.
What do I want to achieve?
I want my body to weigh 110 pounds and my waist to measure 25 inches.
And I’m keeping my eye on that goal.
This is very important because knowing where I want to get to will help me figure out the most important thing of all.
How do I achieve it?
I’ve tried going to the gym, boxing, Bikram Yoga and Pilates.
Most of them worked to keep me fit but I’ve never been consistent enough to really make dramatic changes in my body before.
As I studied my options, I realized I needed to choose something that is realistic and something that I can actually commit to.
Gym, boxing and Bikram Yoga required more money, time and effort: there were gym and class fees to pay, there were class schedules to keep up to not to mention having to commute to the gym or to the studio everyday.
With a 9 – 6 job five days a week, 2 babies and a husband to attend to, I knew such a set up was not realistic for me. Not to mention costly.
What I did have was a Winsor Pilates DVD which I bought five years ago and an exercise mat which I hardly used. Put those two together and I can work out conveniently at home for 20 – 30 minutes everyday — a more realistic and cost-efficient option.
When do I want to achieve it?
I am giving myself until December 15, 2008 — exactly five months for me to achieve my goal. Hubby and I will celebrate our first “second wedding” anniversary on December 15. A healthier and sexier me would be a fitting gift not only to myself but for my hubby as well.
So now I’ve got my target cut out for me:
110 pounds, 25 inches by December 15, 2008.
In the following days, I will chronicle my experiences in this personal challenge: the lessons I learned, the steps I took, the difficulties I faced and the successes I achieved.
I am sharing it with the world partly to challenge myself to honor my commitment and mostly to inspire and encourage others, postpartum moms or not, who want to be healthier and sexier versions of themselves.
Are you facing a weight loss challenge or have you successfully accomplished one? I’d love to hear about them.

I did have a dilemma regarding my weight but I have now accepted that I’m big because I’m big boned.
however I still try to maintain my weight because it’s only me who would get into trouble -financially and physically.
I do admire you (really) kasi here I have an 8-5:30 job, a husband who does most of the work at home yet when I go home, I do not have anything done – in particular my writing!
Wala lng, just semi-ranting
Good luck on your quest!

Thanks Rach! I’m sure you can find the time to do your writing and exercising too. Try to make a daily schedule and stick only to what’s on your list. Or do the things on your list first before you do anything else.
good luck!
i dont my waistline but i know that i was 38 kilos before i got preggy with my first baby — but because i breastfed for a long time, even with another kid — that weight stayed and my jeans size, too. but now that the kids are growing more independent, and am sitting more and more in front of the computer — i dont like what my body is doing right now, hehehe, i am lazy so this would be a fight against mind and body esp since i bought a pair of jeans yesterday and i cant fit into the small size anymore, waaaa.
Thanks Ate Kengks! The thing is I don’t breastfeed exclusively that’s why I don’t really enjoy breastfeeding’s slimming benefits. But it’s okay, I think I can keep this workout going. Getting encouragement from you guys help.
I know what it feels not to fit into a small size anymore and it can be quite frustrating.
That’s why I really want to work hard at this so I can wear any size of clothes I want.
Have you thought about what workout you’re gonna do?
I am faced with that challenge all my life..hahaha.. But more so now, since I am at my heaviest. I need exactly 30lbs to lose to get back to my pre preg body!! SO goodluck to me!
I am making baby steps towards reaching my goals but at least it is a start. I have started going to the gym, I am doing stretching and crunches and I am drinking lots of green tea (sabi it helps with the weight loss daw). I’ve lost 3lbs since last month. Hopefully by the end of this year, I’ll be able to fit into some of my old dress.
Goodluck to us

Good for you! That’s a great accomplishment. I’m sure if you’ll keep at it, you’ll be fit and sexy again in no time. I’ve been drinking green tea too because I read that the catechins in it help speed up metabolism. I’ve started drinking C2 and Del Monte Fit n Right but I can’t really say yet if they really help. Let’s wait and see.
Hi Jayme! Good luck on your weight-loss journey. I am taking baby steps myself to lose more weight, because I’m now back to dance class and there’s nothing more horrifying than seeing your leotard-clad self in wall-sized mirrors! Heehee.
Thanks for the inspiration.

Wow! Dance class sounds really exciting J. And that seems like a more enjoyable way to get fit and sexy too.
I have a couple of dance workout DVDs at home and I might try them after I do Pilates. Do let me know how your weight loss journey turns out.
i’m just glad i breastfed because it did help to achieve my pre-pregnancy weight. all the best, jayme! you can do it!

I’m breastfeeding too, though not exclusively. I think it helps a bit. Thanks for the encouragement. It really means a lot.
You’re doing one really significant step in the path to weight loss — sharing the news with others! This little step is actually huge because you not only feel more obliged to fulfill it (hehe), but you’ll gain a wonderful support system too!
I support you!
I’m also on a fitness challenge now. My goal is to bring my waistline back to 26. Holy cow. I know it’s around 29-30 now, and it’s just three inches away, but my metabolism isn’t cooperating very well.
I’ll keep you posted too.
I like the idea of a deadline, so I’ll think of a deadline for myself too! Three inches lost three months from now? 26 inches by September 30? Hehe. I’ll try!!!
Thanks for the encouragement Jayme.

Thanks for being a great encourager and supporter Toni!
I actually feel more motivated to fulfill this commitment because I’m blogging about my progress. Of course, I’d want to make progress every week.
I support you in your fitness goal too. You looked really slim when I saw you at the Nestle event so I find it hard to believe you’re either a 29 or a 30. Still, 26 is a great goal and I’m sure you can achieve it. No matter how stubborn your metabolism may seem, I think it will yield to your persistent workouts in due time.
I’ll look forward to your fitness goal updates.
Two more months to go for you. Go girl!
