Finding the light with a Soul Card reader

October 6, 2007 in Reflections

soulcardIt was one of those crazy nights.

A lot of thoughts were swimming in my head and I was tired of thinking.

I was surfing the net aimlessly when I clicked on Sandy’s online space.

Her name was familiar since I heard some people from the office go to her to have their fortunes told. They referred to her as a “manghuhula” (fortune teller) who told very accurate findings about them and their future.

But she was not a fortune teller, I’d say she is something more special.

She is a soul card reader.

Another thought: Can she help me clear my mind?

The magic of Soul Cards

Soul Cards were created by interpretive artist Deborah Koff-Chapin. She tells an interesting story about how she created them using touch drawing.

Creating the Soul Cards became a medium for her to express her emotions and eventually, for her personal transformation.

According to the Center for Touch Drawing, Soul Cards:

…assist you to turn your awareness toward your own inner wisdom. When a card is chosen in association with a question, the image often evokes immediate insight. The guidebook supports you to use your creative resources to delve into the images through journal writing, storytelling, visualization, movement, dream incubation and other expressive modalities.

I think what makes Soul Cards special is it taps your “inner wisdom” because ultimately, nobody will really know you better except yourself.

Meeting Sandy

I sent Sandy a message to reserve a schedule. But we had to postpone twice before I finally got to meet her last Wednesday.

I headed to the Reading Room at the Cubao Expo where Sandy holds her readings. I was early for our 2 pm appointment so I browsed the various items inside her shop.

There were skin care products, accessories, bags, notebooks, make-up and clothes that were placed neatly on wooden racks around the shop. It was so tempting to buy a lot of items but I kept my wallet buried in my bag. I had to focus myself on the purpose at hand

After a few minutes, Sandy came out to greet me and ushered me in her small sanctuary. I was a bit nervous about what her readings would be. But when she began shuffling the cards and placing them one by one on the table between us, I grew more and more comfortable.

She had this friendly and kikay aura around her that made me feel connected to her and I opened up my deep-seated worries and concerns about my career, my marriage, my family and our future.

As Sandy read the cards, there were times when I felt I could hear myself talking through her. Some of the things she said, I already knew inside me. I guess I just needed to hear somebody else to say them to me.

She said that I thought too much and rested too little. When I think of something, it lords over my mind that even when I sleep, my mind is still running.

She said I should take better care of myself and have more fun. All the stress that had piled up through the years, she said, had drained me gray, robbing me of my enthusiasm and purging my passion.

I need to get back the old and happy me.

I need to pursue my passion.

It’s something that I’ve told myself over and over. But somehow the mundane concerns of daily life get in the way and another chance passes me by.

She gave me some pieces of advice that I think would benefit anyone who lives a stressful life:

  1. Invest in vitamins. Your body needs it.
  2. Get enough sleep. At least 8 hours.
  3. Pamper yourself. Be kikay again.
  4. Take time to have fun!

After giving me a general reading, I was allowed to ask her some questions. I was relieved to find that all the answers are positive in nature.

I also asked her about this “unfinished business” that has been bugging me for some time and what she said was something I already knew: “You’re already over it.”

And I know I am.

She reminded me to make the most of my gifts, love myself and really live my life.

After talking to Sandy, I felt enlightened, inspired, motivated and empowered.

Maybe it was partly because she assured me the future looks great.

But I think it’s more because I knew myself better and I saw the path I was taking become clearer.

I’ve always believed that we meet certain people for a reason. No matter how brief the encounter, these people teach you something about yourself and your life. You just have to keep your eyes and your heart open to them.

I guess I just needed this good and gifted person to help me walk in the right direction.

Thanks Sandy.
