Car tales

July 29, 2011 in Miscellany

We’ve been car – less for more than two weeks now. Our car’s engine had a little trouble and some parts needed to be replaced for it to work again.

My hubby, who rarely commutes, has gotten used to being a commuter. I love the convenience of having your own vehicle but I’ve always been a commuter myself and I’ve had no qualms about it.

Almost every place I need to get to these days can be reached by tricycle. Hubby’s workplace is easily accessible by public transport as well. The only downside is we haven’t been able to go out as much with the kids. I imagine being stuck in a taxi line with two grumpy kids eager to get home would be no fun at all.

Anyway, hubby has decided it’s time to invest in a new car. He has always bought second hand vehicles since it’s more practical. But the car troubles can cause such a hassle especially if you don’t know the car’s history down to the tiniest detail.

I said I wouldn’t mind getting a smaller vehicle like a CRV so it would cost a bit less. I still don’t think we can fit into a car at this point. Maybe when the kids are in their teens and can be patient enough to stay put. But right now we need something with more space.

His dream car of the moment is a white Montero sport. I placed the photo up there for visualization. It is a bit pricier but of course, the driver has the last say. While I would love for us to be debt free and pay for everything in cash, whether we get a Montero or a CRV financing from the bank would be the most realistic way to go. Unless I win one million pesos in the next month or so. ;)

In the meantime, public transport it is. By the time we get a new car, we’d probably be frequent commuters and occasional drivers.
