Can money make you happy?

I recently read a post from K and something he wrote stuck with me: “Money doesn’t buy happiness, but it can buy things that can make you happy.”

True.

When I buy a new notebook, a great book, fresh pots of mineral make up, or a smashing dress, I feel happy. Of course, it’s not the ecstatic kind of happy like the one I get whenever I see my baby smile. But it is the kind of happiness that comes from comfort in knowing that I can afford to satisfy my needs as well as my wants.

Having a family can sometimes deprive you of that because most of the time, your family’s needs become the top priority. And your wants take a back seat if not entirely thrown out of the window.

But it doesn’t have to be that way.

I think that we live in an abundant world. Money is everywhere, all you got to do is find it and use your talents to get it.

When I entered the blogging world, I never knew that one could actually earn just by blogging.

But an old friend encouraged me to join paid blogging sites since she herself was able to earn a substantial amount from it every month which allowed her to afford some personal wants and luxuries.

Of course, I had doubts if blogging can really be that lucrative. Then I read other stories of people who did make money from blogging so I thought why not give it a try?

I signed up for PayPerPost (PPP), one of the top (if not the top) sites that pay bloggers to write blog reviews. Their “get paid to blog about things you love” slogan was too tempting to resist.

What I love about PPP?

  • Great customer service. I had a little confusion with the application process and emailed Customer Love (how’s that for a department name?) about it. I got a reply in less than 24 hours and my customer ticket was resolved right away.
  • Numerous opportunities. Whenever I log into my blogger dashboard, I see at least 10 opportunities I’m qualified for which is great because it means I’ll have more choices on what to write about.
  • Great support. PPP has a University where bloggers, especially newbies, can learn more about how to write better and maximize their earnings with PPP.
  • Payments are made through Paypal. This was a hindrance for me at first when Paypal had very limited services for the Philippines. But now that it’s offering full service here, I’m expecting the payment process would be a breeze.

As with any other money-making opportunity, I know it takes a lot of effort and creativiy to earn much. I’ve been trying to blog regularly lately and with PPP, I may need to blog more often than I used to.

But if the money I earn can allow me to save some for my needs and spend more for my wants, it may be worth a try. Who knows, I may save enough money to buy number one on my wishlist? Now that would really make me happy.

One Response to “Can money make you happy?”

At first I got a little excited about this “blog writing=money”, I signed right away and made my first post just like these. And I thought, it’s pretty easy really but when I get a few “opps” awaiting for me to do, I stared blank on my blog, thinking and said, “then what”? I am happy with blogging, taking photos, downloading mp3, sharing stories, tweaking wordpress themes, hating my boss and even what color of underwear I am wearing - with all that I am happy. But why would I still need to write and get money? I thought, “cool, it’s fun”. pero lately parang “I don’t think I’ll enjoy writing because “somebody else” will pay me for this. I know that we blog for others, who else will read our blogs, right? What I am saying, is that, sometimes, money is not easy to earn if you don’t work hard for it, but when you’re overworked just to get something is not healthy anymore.

Blogging is already fun for me, either posting photos of myself, leaving comments or writing the daily dose of ‘what’s up with yous” is enough for me. So ayun, pending ang mga PPP posts.

Pero, if you love writing, why not right? Good luck!

K’s last blog post..No matter how long the winter, spring is sure to follow
