A few days ago, I was doing some window-shopping in the mall when I overheard one of the salesladies muttering how there were very few shoppers which was unusual for a weekend.
I glanced around me and true enough I could count with both hands how many people were shopping that day. Actually, most of us were just window shopping.
I guess people are starting to feel the penny pinch and they are opting to stay home and save money.
That’s a stark contrast to last summer’s big sale when the mall was packed with people. The word “sale” seems to prompt anyone to buy even if they “don’t really have much money.” (I wonder if people would buy as much if the mall held a weekly sale just like online shopping sites do.)
As for me, I have learned the art of shopping restraint for the past few months. Even if there’s a big “SALE” sign right smack at the store entrance, I just look and leave.
That effort paid off because I was able to save money, I had ready cash on hand when I had to take the kids to the doctor and when they needed medicines.
But my savings were wiped out eventually after some emergency expenses so the big lesson was I had to save bigger.
Now I’m starting all over with the savings fund and my “happy money” fund.
A few weeks ago, my soul sister A and I were talking about how we needed to get off our butts and find ways to make more money.
Though we both had steady jobs, we both knew business was the only way we could be financially independent.
She has a brilliant idea about a physical business she wants to put up within the year.
I, on the other hand, have been deeply engrossed with how to start an online business.
I have had success earning with this blog since last year through paid posts and some ads but I haven’t really maximized the potential of making money online.
And through my research, I found out that there are a lot — and I mean a lot — of ways you can earn money online that can give you a full – time income.
Now I’m using my earnings from paid blogging as seed money to fund my “internet marketing education.”
So far, I have done a little testing with the stuff I’ve learned about starting an online business.
It’s in the very eary stages so I’ll have to wait and see how and when this actually works.
When it does, I’m sure it will be nothing short of life-changing.
I will certainly share the things learn here so we could all say goodbye to penny pinching.
