How to stay wrinkle-free
Wouldn’t it be great if our skin stayed like a baby’s for life?
Smooth, supple, flawless and wrinkle-free skin is what all women (maybe even men) yearn for that’s why the beauty and cosmetic industry continues to boom. Who wouldn’t be tempted to try these beauty products and cosmetic treatments that promise to restore or preserve youthful beauty?
Everybody wants to be beautiful and so we continue to search for that elusive fountain of youth.
Sadly though, aging is a fact of life. Unless someone discovers how to stop physical aging, we will grow older, our skin will lose moisture and it will sag and wrinkle.
And even if we undergo the most expensive cosmetic treatment or swipe on the top wrinkle cream, the lines of your life will appear eventually and stay permanently.
The best way to maintain your line-free skin is to start preventing wrinkles while you’re young and keeping it off for as long as you can.
Wear sunscreen. According to the Medicine Net site, there are a lot of factors that promote wrinkles but one of the main culprits is sun exposure. The site says the face, neck, the backs of hands and the tops of the forearms are the parts of the body that are more exposed to the sun and, thus, more prone to wrinkles.
Sunscreen is one of the most effective tools you can use in preventing wrinkles. In an article, Dr. Heather Brannan said applying sunscreen, even as low as SPF15, everyday can help as long as you do it consistently.
A Consumer Reports study even said that wearing sunscreen beats using wrinkle creams plus its cheaper too. I’ve been using sunscreen for four years now and though I can’t qualify how much it has improved my skin, I’ve stayed wrinkle - free until now. I’ve been using sunscreens with a high SPF such as L’Oreal UV Perfect SPF 50 and The Face Shop Sun SPF 50.
Be smoke-free. Whether you’re habitually smoking or regularly exposed to second hand smoke, the effects are the same: accelerated aging that lead to wrinkles. The Mayo Clinic site explains:
Smoking causes narrowing of the blood vessels in the outermost layers of your skin. This impairs blood flow to your skin, depleting it of oxygen and important nutrients, such as vitamin A. Smoking also damages collagen and elastin — fibers that give your skin its strength and elasticity. As a result, skin begins to sag and wrinkle prematurely.
Keep your arteries young. The YOU Docs Dr. Mehmet Oz and Dr. Mike Roizen say “arterial health plays a major role in the development (or lack of development) of wrinkles” and offer a shorthand guideline on how to keep the arteries young including exercising at least 30 minutes daily, eating 4 fruits and five vegetables a day, and taking vitamins such as folate, Vitamins B6 and B12. It takes some discipline to do these but the upside is you not only get smooth skin, you get a healthier body too.
Smile a lot and smile often. The fact remains that we can only prevent wrinkles for so long. Sooner or later they will show up whether we like it or not. So we might as well have smiling lines that reflect not just old age but a happy life. When you age gracefully, wrinkles actually make you look more beautiful.
