What’s your high today?
I always try to be in a state of gratitude everyday. It helps to put my life in perspective and keeps me focused on the good things.
Recently, I’ve been practicing another thing that makes my life more meaningful and fulfilling. I’ve been keeping track and remembering the “highs” of my day.
A high could mean something that made you happy like playing in the rain with your kid. It could also be an accomplishment like doing 30 minutes of exercise.
It’s great to track and remember your daily “highs” because:
- It helps you to be conscious about each moment and to savor the good feelings that come with it. It also keeps you in a great state of mind and body throughout the day
- It helps you to feel good through the night and preps you for better sleep. And when you sleep in a high state of mind, it sets you up for a great morning ahead.
I track and remember my daily highs in my journal.
Sometimes, when I’ve experienced something that really made an impact on me or when I’ve accomplished something I’m really excited about, I record it in my journal right away.
At night, before I sleep, I write down all of the other things I could recall that really made my day.
Remembering the special moments makes me happier. But more than that, taking note of my daily accomplishments boosts my self-confidence and motivates me to accomplish more the next day.
Here are some of the things on my “daily highs” list:
Special moments
- Getting a good morning kiss from my hubby.
- Being greeted with a big smile by my baby.
- Eating my hubby’s delicious pasta for breakfast.
- Playing hide and seek with Jamaine.
- Seeing Kalia “smile” in her sleep.
- Watching the trees bathed by the rain.
Accomplishments
- Giving Kalia a tub bath.
- Being patient with Jamaine’s moods.
- Sewing the missing button on Kernie’s shirt.
- Breastfeeding Kalia the whole day.
- Finishing four chapters from the self-development book I’m reading.
- Finishing a blog article.
Track your special moments and accomplishments, no matter how big or small.
I emphasized big or small because accomplishments come in both sizes. It actually depends on us how we will define an accomplishment or a success.
I think that whether you’re a top executive or a stay at home mom, you have accomplishments that you can be proud of.
The same goes for those special moments. No matter how bad your day seemed, you will always find those special happy moments if you keep your heart open to feel them.
So what are your highs for today?
Think about them. Write them. Remember them.
And see how it can make a difference in your life.
