Inspiration Monday

The Optimist's Creed

This is my desktop inspiration.

I found Christian Larson’s Optimist Creed in the Secret website and I have been reading it everyday before I get down to work. It’s like a mission statement that guides me through the day.

According to this site, Christian Larson was a New Thought leader and he penned the Optimist’s Creed in 1912.

It’s amazing how almost a hundred years have passed yet the message still rings so true today.

The original text was written like an advice from Larson starting with the statement

“Promise yourself…”

But the people over at the Secret website modified it and made it like a personal creed starting with the statement

“I promise myself…”

The site also features a beautiful slideshow of the Optimist’s Creed. Check it out and be inspired.

The Optimist’s Creed

Christian Larson / Modified by the Secret

I promise myself…

To be so strong that nothing can disturb my peace of mind

To talk health, happiness, and prosperity to every person I meet

To make all my friends feel that there is something worthwhile in them

To look at the sunny side of everything and make my optimism come true

To think only of the best, to work only for the best and to expect only the best

To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as I am about my own

To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future

To wear a cheerful expression at all times and give a smile to every living creature I meet

To give so much time to improving myself that I have no time to criticize others

To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble

To think well of myself and to proclaim this fact to the world, not in loud words, but in great deeds

To live in the faith that the whole world is on my side, so long as I am true to the best that is in me.

I love all the lines in the creed.

Which line really resonates with you?

Have an inspiring week everyone! :D

I love this as well. Can you tell me how you were able to make it your desktop background? I would love to have it as my background @ work, too. Thank you for sharing.

Hi Callie! I just got a screen capture from the Secret website. Since you left your email add, I took the liberty of sending you the jpeg file. Have a great week and thanks for visiting! :D

“To be so strong that nothing can disturb my peace of mind,” that’s the line for me. I’ve always believed that at the end of the day, when you retire at night, it’s imperative that you’re friends with yourself. It’s what makes me look forward to tomorrow.

That’s a great perspective Giselle. After all, what is done is done. Time will be better spent if you use it to make the next day a better and happier one. :D

“To look at the sunny side of everything and make my optimism come true”

Don’t worry, be happy!

With each rain that falls, life begins anew. - This one’s my own single-line creed.

:)

Have a wonderful week, Jayme, to you and your husband and two angels.

“To live in the faith that the whole world is on my side, so long as I am true to the best that is in me.” I try to be the best version of myself everyday, and I continue to believe that the universe, so long as I’m in it, will return the favor. :) Thank you for sharing this inspiring post, Jayme!
