“If it’s important to you…”

Posted May 31st, 2008 by Jayme

I was supposed to type a blog entry last night when Kernan nudged me from the other side of the bed,

“Can you check this proposal for me?”

I had just put Jamaine to sleep and I was aching for some “me time” which meant either blogging, journaling or reading. I’ve been at work the whole day and I consider my “me time” my chance to unwind.

Checking Kernie’s proposal would take me a whole two hours, after which I know I’ll feel tired and just go to sleep. This means “me time” will just become sleep time.

Do I have to do this now? I thought to myself. The selfish brat was sticking out its head.

Then as if on cue, a friend’s words rung in my head,

If there’s one piece of marriage advice I could give you, it’s to remember this: ‘Honey, if it’s important to you, it’s important to me.’

What’s your logo?

Posted May 31st, 2008 by Jayme

What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when you see the following images?

Apple logo

Nike logo

Google logo

The first one reminds me of the first gadget in my wishlist: a hot Macbook.

The second one makes me feel empowered with the “Just do it!” tag line ringing in my head.

And the third one, for me, is one of the best things ever about the internet.

Sing like no one’s listening… dance like nobody’s watching…

Posted May 28th, 2008 by Jayme

Kuya and meThat’s me and my older brother during a party at my grandmother’s house some ____ years ago.

Remember how parents and relatives would mount impromptu talent shows during family gatherings? The kids would be asked to sing, dance, declaim and show whatever talent we had for the whole clan to see.

I never really knew if I sang or danced well. All I knew was that I just needed to sing with all my might and to dance with every bit of energy in my body. The oldies would clap for me and I would feel so happy.

I think more than just being proud of what we could do, our parents felt it was one way of boosting our self-confidence.

Inspiration Monday

The Optimist's Creed

This is my desktop inspiration.

I found Christian Larson’s Optimist Creed in the Secret website and I have been reading it everyday before I get down to work. It’s like a mission statement that guides me through the day.

According to this site, Christian Larson was a New Thought leader and he penned the Optimist’s Creed in 1912.

It’s amazing how almost a hundred years have passed yet the message still rings so true today.

Classic beauty or modern chic?

Posted May 25th, 2008 by Jayme

I’ve always said that I don’t feel like much of a homemaker yet. But lately, I’ve been interested in interior design and home furniture, all in anticipation of our big move and, eventually, the construction of our own home.

I’m experiencing split personality though with all the designs I’ve been browsing. Part of me wants classic beautiful furniture while part of me veers toward modern chic stuff.

For example, take a look at these web finds I stumbled on recently.

A classic English chest of drawers or

English drawer chest

a hot pink and black commode.

Bathing baby safely

Posted May 23rd, 2008 by Jayme

Since Jamaine turned a year old, I have been training her to be a “big girl” bit by bit.

She took to eating solids and drinking from a cup excitedly.

But one thing that took a bit longer for her to adjust to was taking a bath in the bathroom.

I have been giving her baths in her tub until her 11th month and she loved it a lot. Since our bathroom was bit small, I would set up her tub just outside the bathroom so we’d have more space to move around in.

She seemed to like splashing water on the floor and playing with her rubber toys in the water so I thought our transition to the bathroom would be easy.

But when I brought her inside the bathroom, she seemed to be terrified of the faucet and just about everything in the bathroom. When I would pour water on her, she would cling to me with all her might, tiptoe as high as she could and tilt her head up as if she was drowning!

How to deal with each other’s differences

Posted May 21st, 2008 by Jayme

One night, Kernan and I were about to have dinner when I found him holding up the two plates of hot rice in front of the aircon.

“What are you doing?” I asked.

“Cooling off the rice, it’s too hot. I like my rice a bit cold.”

“But I like my rice hot.”

“Okay, do you want me to reheat it for you in the microwave?”

“Oh, never mind.”

I love warm meals so I couldn’t quite understand then why Kernan preferred his a bit cold. He should eat his meals while they’re still warm because that’s the way it should be, shouldn’t it?

During our first months together, a lot of people would ask me how Kernan and I got along.

“You’re such opposites.” People would tell us.

Beauty tips from an ex-pimple face

Posted May 20th, 2008 by Jayme

Pimple face.

That’s how bad I looked when I was in college.

My face was oily, splotched with red marks here and there, spotted with scars and acne.

I wish I could say my disastrous face was the result of long overnights finishing school projects.

But the truth is, it was all caused by my excessive vanity.
