Ending my internet diet

I’m finally ending my self-imposed internet diet tonight.

I’ve been so high on blogging, blog hopping and web surfing for the past months and I felt that it was time to give myself a break starting last Monday. I guess you could also say it was part of my sacrifices for the Lenten Season.

Another important reason was I developed a numbness in my left hand over the past weeks. Since it extended from the wrist, my OB thought it could be a pregnancy-induced carpal tunnel syndrome since she said my nerves are more tender now. But I think it’s more because of my extreme use of the laptop. The numbness was so bad that I could barely grasp anything with my left hand because it felt so weak.

After my internet diet, the numbness has greatly decreased. My left hand still feels a bit numb at times but it feels a lot stronger now.

So what have I been up to the past week? Not a whole lot but I was able to do some things that mean a lot to me.

Since I don’t want to shock my hands into blogging overdrive, let me give you my stories in bullets:

  • I spent the early part of the week planning for Jamaine’s first birthday party. She’s turning 1 on April 1 and we’re celebrating it on April 5. Mama was my able guide and companion to 168 Mall in Divisoria where we bought Jamaine’s loot bags. A lot of people have told me before how affordable everything is at 168 but I was too lazy to check it out myself because I dreaded having to elbow my way through a throng of people. But when we went there last Tuesday, the crowd was fairly small and navigating through the mall was a breeze. I was so overwhelmed how almost all prices were rock-bottom! We were only there for the lootbags and I had to remain focused to our goal. But I eyed some pretty pieces of clothes, shoes and bags that were screaming “Buy me!” By the end of the day, I vowed I would definitely go back to 168 to do some serious shopping.
  • We spent the rest of the week at Kernan’s parent’s house in Laguna. It’s situated in a nice and quiet subdivision which I really liked. I was able to take Jamaine out for walks so she could see some “flowers, cats, dogs and cows,” the stuff she only sees in her picture books. I’m sure it was a refreshing sight for her coming from the cement walls surrounding our apartment.
  • Watched the 7th Heaven marathons curled up on the bed. Kernan and I both loved 7th Heaven when were kids. I liked how ideal their family was and I thought Rev. and Mrs. Camden were really cool parents. I haven’t watched a single episode in ages and it was great to catch a couple of their latest seasons over the Holy Week. It was also a great way to spend time with Kernan since we can now relate to most of the episodes especially about marriage and parenting.
  • Bonded with Jamaine a lot. Her yaya got sick in the middle of the week so I took care of Jamaine for most of the day, played with her, fed her milk, washed her bottles, put her to sleep, and changed her clothes among other things. Since I went back to work, I delegated most of these tasks to her yaya during the day and I took care of Jamaine when I would arrive home from work at night. The past week made me feel like a full-time mommy to Jamaine and though it was really exhausting to have to take care of her the whole day, it was a whole lot of fun.
  • Wrote in my journal almost every day. Though I wasn’t blogging, I wrote in my journal a lot. It’s usually something that takes a back seat when I blog but last week I realized how journalling really is essential for me not only to practice my writing but to stimulate the free flow of feelings and thoughts as well.
  • Relaxed a lot and freed myself from thoughts of work and airing dates. I almost didn’t use my cellphone the past week and hardly touched my planner and work notebooks. It felt so liberating. :)

I’m actually getting a lot of new blog entry ideas as I write this but I have to stop now and give my wrists a rest.

How was your Holy Week break? Sure hope you had a great one as I did. :D

Thankfully, I haven’t reached that painful stage yet. I’m giving my hands “regular rests” now sp hopefully the numbness will subside completely within the next few weeks. :D

Grabe, ang bilis, 1 year old na si Jamaine! Who would have thought that we’ll come to this stage where we think about family and children and career? Either we’re old or that college days are so yesteryears - either way, we should all age gracefully :)

you really should rest, jayme. i remember when i was pregnant and i took my condition for granted. akala ko kaya ko, but it turns out nas-stress na pala ako and my baby. lagi akong nakaharap sa laptop noon, whether to surf or to watch DVDs.

basta take care of yourself ha!

Lynds: Amen. Pero di pa naman tayo aging sobra. Young at heart pa rin. :)
Ris: Thanks for the advice. Trying to rest as much as I can. :)
