How to be pretty while preggy

“Wow, you look blooming!”

That was the first thing my OB told me when I walked in the clinic for my monthly check up.

When I arrived in the office, two people I met along the corridor said the same thing.

They all say motherhood becomes me.

I wish I could say this prettiness comes so effortlessly. But the truth is, I do exert effort to look pretty.

Any woman who has ever been pregnant would attest that having a bulging tummy can make one feel ugly and frumpy.

I felt that way during the early weeks of my first pregnancy.

I didn’t like looking at the mirror because all I could see was my puffy face.

I also didn’t want to go out because that meant I would have to face my closet and go through the whole “I-have-nothing-to-wear” dilemma. It sucked when I could no longer fit into my old clothes.

Well, one day, I finally snapped out of my self-created melodrama and I decided to prettify myself again.

7 ways to dump the frumpy

  1. Wear chic clothes. I took out all my clothes, sorted the ones I can still wear and stashed the ones I can’t at the back of the closet. Checking my inventory, I looked for fashionable outfits that can fit preggy women. It’s a good thing that more and more boutiques are coming up with fashionable maternity lines like Havin’ A Baby and Egg. But these clothes often come with a hefty price tag. So if you’re budget conscious like me, scout for cheaper alternatives online. I bought mine from Next9 and Maternity Chic.
  2. Make time for make-up. I used to be lazy. After applying moisturizer, I usually just dust my face with some face powder, apply cheek tint and some lip balm. But with my recent affinity to mineral make-up, I know spend some pretty time swirling, tapping and buffing some powder foundation, finishing powder, blush and glow enhancer. I also swipe some lipstick on top of my regular lip balm. The best thing about MMU is even if you put so many layers, your face still looks naturally pretty. Besides, glowing cheeks and luscious looking lips really helps to lift my mood.
  3. Wear comfy shoes. I used to rely heavily on my black Havaianas for whatever outfit I’m wearing. Flat flip-flops really make waddling walking a whole lot easier. But then I felt so underdressed whenever I wore flip-flops so now I opt to wear ballet or open toe flats. It helps to keep my outfit look put together.
  4. Up the vitamin intake. My OB has prescribed four vitamins for me to take daily. Though it’s a real pain in the throat sometimes (some of them leave an awful aftertaste too…ack!), I try to take them all religiously. I noticed that aside from doing good for Kalia, the vitamins also helped clear my skin.
  5. Eat healthy food. I’ve been loving succulent fruits lately especially peaches and mangoes. They help me to curb the sweet tooth cravings in a healthy way.
  6. Indulge. Once in a while. Chocolates will always be my addiction but since I’m more prone to gain weight now, I try to limit my intake to thrice a week. If munching on a Toblerone makes me instantly happy, why resist? And make sure to indulge on clean and safe food. I learned this the hard way when I carelessly helped myself to a stick of squidballs being sold on the street. I felt like crap after and stayed in the bathroom for a whole hour!
  7. Surround yourself with loving and happy people. I know this is easier said than done but it will do you a world of good. I always remember that my mood also affects my baby and when I’m happy, she’s happy. Having a support system comes in handy especially on days when you just can’t help but feel so crappy.

But the best prettifying secret of all? STAY IN LOVE!

My hubby always tells me I’m the prettiest pregnant woman in the world. And I know I am. :)

“Prettify” that’s a new vocabulary ha? I think Mothers who maintain being “happy” and enjoying their Motherhood is what makes a person more beautiful. I saw this woman on her mid 30’s with 3 kids tailing her on a shopping mall with a sunglasses on, sneaker, jeans and white t-shirts looks better than the Mother with a Gucci bag and a cellphone leaving their kids behind because she was busy flipping the shoes. Ok the shoes should never be avoided by women, hahaha.

K’s last blog post..No coin of phrase to spend

Ris: Yup, girl na talaga. Nag-wish ako na sana boy para I can stop at two. Kaso hubby wants a boy talaga. Oh well… Di ko nga alam kung totoo yung pag girl, pretty daw. Ack…ibig sabihin ba pag nagbuntis ako ng boy, papangit ako… hehe… Pero a friend whose sister conceived a boy was pretty pa rin during her pregnancy. I guess depende talaga sa pag-aalaga mo sa sarili mo.

Joanjoyce: Aww…you’re so sweet girl. Salamat ha. :D Pero alam mo, palagay ko, mas madali i-lose ang normal weight kaysa pregnancy weight kaya I’m sure kayang-kaya mo yan. Bawal ako mag-diet sobra kaya wala pa ko ma-share na tips. But once I give birth, kakaririn ko talaga uli ang pagpapapayat. :D
K:Got the term from Cosmo… hehe… :D You’re right, happiness brings out real beauty. Since I became a mother, I said no to designer stuff na. Pambili din yun ng gamit ni baby ko. Pero the shoes….ah the shoes! Too bad my feet are expanding, I can’t wear heels tuloy. The pretty shoes will have to wait. :D
