My notebook fixation

Jayme's notebooks

I guess you can tell I have this thing for notebooks. Some friends call me a notebook addict because I use too many at the same time.

Well, I like to write a lot. When an idea strikes me, I want to write it down right away so it won’t slip from my mind. I used to write on just about any piece of paper but I ended up losing them so I thought having notebooks for every compartment of my mind would be a better way to go.

I have my planner for schedules and things to do at work. Sometimes I write one liners about personal events or memorable dates but most of that stuff goes into my journal.

I didn’t really intend to get a Starbucks planner at first because I couldn’t bring myself to spend two thousand plus pesos on caffeinated drinks just to get it.

But when I saw that the 2008 planner was that pretty, I looked for someone who would be willing to sell one to me. And lo and behold, I was able to get it from someone I found online who was selling planners at 800 bucks a piece.

I have two idea notebooks, both of which I got from Papemelroti. Since the spaces on my planner are not enough for a scribbler like me, I jot down ideas and plans for work in one notebook.

The other one is for ideas and random notes for future blog posts, great quotes I pick up from everywhere, personal reminders and to do lists.

My fourth idea notebook is for books I read. I love my books and I don’t like writing or highlighting them. For me, that would be like destroying a book!

I’ve re-read some of my books for about five times or so. But sometimes, I don’t absorb all of the things I learn from them. It’s like I’ve read all these great principles on how to be happy and successful but after I’ve shelved the book, I don’t remember to apply them.

So now, I thought of having a notebook where I can write quotes, lessons or action steps that I want to remember from the chapter I just read. Before I resume reading, I review my past notes just to refresh my memory.

Or sometimes, when I don’t have the energy to read a book, I browse through my notes. I usually make small stick drawings or fancy letterings on the pages so it looks more interesting.

The last and my most favorite notebook of all is my journal. I bought this from a little kiosk called “FUNctional” in Market! Market!

I was mulling then if I will buy a Moleskine at the nearby Fully Booked when I spotted this notebook. It was pink love at first sight.

The leatherette cover is nowhere near a Moleskine but it’s sturdy enough. The pages are smooth and thick so the sign pen ink doesn’t stain when you write on them. It’s cheaper at 280 bucks and best of all, it’s pink.

I’d still love to have a Moleskine and if they suddenly come out with a pink edition, I’d definitely buy one. But I’ll stick to my journal for now and hopefully use it long enough to consume all its pages.

The thing is, I get tired of my notebooks easily and when a new one catches my eye, I buy it and shelve my relatively “old” one. So far, I think I’ve only consumed 3 notebooks up to the last page. The rest have been shelved with half the pages still blank.

I know it’s a guilty pleasure for me and I’m trying to get rid off this bad habit. My resolution is to consume all these notebooks before I buy new ones.

But I found something in my Multiply inbox that threatens to break my resolve: cute notebooks from the Reading Room.

Sandy says they’re made by the cool girls from he leaves me not.

I'm in love with myself

Sweets notebook

Live Loud notebook

I’m staying away from the Cubao Expo. Did I mention that they have a buy 5 (@ P150 each) and take one notebook free promo?

Tempting.

What are you fixated on?

That’s a lot. Well I can call it a collection of cuteness. That’s what I do, like you, I buy small bolster, cushions and other things for my small apartment for no apparent reasons. I am trying to clear excess stuff tho as it seems to shrink the livable space in my home, making me feel like it’s too small, which may lead me to consider moving to a larger space, but then again, I can’t stop.

Do you bring them all together when you’re out?

Thanks btw for the nice visit.

Ris: Ako rin, whether it’s National Bookstore, Powerbooks or Fully Booked, I can spend hours just browsing books. When my hubby and I go to Greenhills, alam na niya na kailangan dumaan talaga kami sa Fully Booked kahit 15 minutes lang. Super love ko yung FB dun, it’s huge! Pero balita ko mas malaki yung sa may Bonifacio Drive. I plan to go there soon. Okay lang maging nerd no, maganda naman. Hehe… :D
JoanJoyce:Yeah I bring them all. Kaya nga lahat ng bag ko malalaki. You can never make me use a teeny shoulder bag. Yun lang, madali masira ang mga shoulder bags ko kasi nga sobra bigat. I have yet to find a really sturdy bag that can hold all my notebooks in it. Siyempre, bukod sa notebooks, I still have my kikay kit, my umbrella, my books…. parang dala ko nga buong kuwarto ko.
K: “…but then again, I can’t stop.” I’ve been trying to curb this notebook craziness too but when I see new notebooks, it’s like they’re saying “buy me! buy me!” I have to muster so much self-control not to spend too much on them.

Thanks for the visit! :)
