Chuck, Larry and the Martian Child

Some said it was totally rotten.

I’d say it’s definitely forgettable but totally hilarious. “I now pronounce you…Chuck and Larry” almost made us split our sides laughing.

The plot was quite simple: two bestfriends pretend to be a gay couple and get married so one can get his insurance benefits. There’s still some slapstick comedy here and there and the ending is quite predictable.

But if you just want to forget about your serious issues in life even for just a couple of hours, then this movie might do the trick.

This is one of the reasons Kernan and I love Adam Sandler: we always feel light and happy after watching his movies.

“Click” may be an exception but it still made a positive impact on the way we viewed our work life. I guess you can say we learned all the right reasons why it’s wrong to be a workaholic.

On the other hand, Chuck and Larry attempted a bit of depth when it came to homosexual issues. They were sympathetic in a weird and funny kind of way. The things we learned:

  • Friendship can lead to true love.
  • Looks can be deceiving.
  • Life is funny.

Anyway, I’m just happy to be watching movies again. This time, I can resist the urge to go rushing home to Jamaine until the movie is halfway. A few months ago, I would be raring to go home during the opening credits.

Next Attractions and mushy tag lines

“It doesn’t matter where you come from as long as you discover where you belong.”

I’m such a sucker for mushy tag lines.

Interestingly though, this line wasn’t from a romantic movie. I got it from the trailer ofMartian Child the drama the Martian Child.

In the story, a sci-fi writer played by John Cusack is widowed and adopts a kid who claims he is from Mars. The child does seem a bit eccentric but John loves him anyway.

I like the scene where the kid is shown accidentally breaking John’s camera and asks with a tone that could break your heart, “Am I bad?”

John replies, “It’s just stuff.” He starts breaking other stuff in the house while telling the young boy, “Break it like you mean it.”

Then he says:

“There’s nothing you can do that will change the way I feel about you.”

Wow.

Spoken like a true parent.

Talk about unconditional love.

The trailer is heartwarming.

I’m guessing the movie is too.

Adam Sandler’s one of my favorite comedians. (Robin Williams is at the top of my list)

I love ‘Click’. It was actually the movie that made me shed a tear for the first time. You remember the scene where he rewinded to the last time he saw his dad? When he said, “I love you, dad. You know that.” it really broke me.

Anyway, I haven’t seen “I Now Pronounce You, Chuck and Larry” but I’m sure I will have a great time with it. Adam Sandler never disappointed me, Perhaps because his brand of comedy is right up my alley. Even the flop “Little Nicky” is one of my Sandler Favorites.

Ria: Take time out and go on a date. I’m so looking forward to Martian Child. :)
Papa Ces: I remember that scene! i cried at that part too. I think it was one of the scenes that had great impact on me. Kernan also likes Little Nicky and keeps a real old VCD of it. :D

Saw Martian Child’s trailer too but though I remember the scenes, I completely forgot the movie’s title. Will watch it when it shows. It seems like a good one.

Em Dy: It’s the scenes that really stick with you. At first I thought it was Martian Kid, but when I googled it, it was Child pala. Can’t wait to watch it in the Promenade. Ganda ng theaters nila. :)
